Louisa Raj makes her solo exhibition debut at Wasuka Art, running from 17–15 January 2026. The show highlights the laborious efforts behind the humble grain of rice, an everyday staple often taken for granted. Moving beyond a simplistic reading of rice as mere sustenance, the exhibition presents Raj’s meticulously rendered realist paintings, whose quiet, nostalgic sensibility invites contemplation and reflection.
A self-taught artist, her practice is informed by discipline and sustained concentration. Extended periods of painting cultivate technical control through repetition and patience. Process functions as a core principle in her work, with time and labour remaining legible in the finished paintings, paralleling the often-invisible work embedded in her chosen subjects.
